No it wasn’t a dream. Yes it did happen. Villa actually won an away game of football.

Like many games this season Villa saw their lead squandered and the game looked like it was heading for a draw but to the joy of all, Villa who bounced back and grabbed a last minute winner.

There may have been question marks with the Aston Villa initial line up, in that Villa were not starting Amavi, McCormack and Ayew and despite Villa taking a first half lead, those question marks were reinforced early in the 2nd half when Ally Cissokho gave away his 2nd penalty in as many games, gifting Reading an equaliser in the process (surely Amavi should have started) Nevertheless, Amavi, McCormack and Ayew all made their appearances late on. Too little to late? No, the freshness and quality made all the difference and Ayew’s wizardry saw him fouled in the 90th minute which earned Vila a penalty and ultimately the 3 points.

Prior to kick off I was sceptical of the line up. Jedinak had been of the pace against Wolves the weekend and Gardner hadn’t impressed me at all the time I had seen him play this season. For me though, Gardener was our man of the match, he set Adomah on his way which assisted Kodjia with goal and he never stopped running. His celebration after Villa scored the penalty was as much a reward for him as it was for the fans.

Villa only saw 31% of the possession and the way we played reminded me a little of the Martin O’Neill days when we were happy to let the opposition have the ball, limiting chances and playing on the counter. It may not always be the most attractive football but truth be told, f it gets us results, who cares.

Either we were very fortunate or Bruce played his tactics spot on. At this stage all that matters is that we took all the points. Let’s hope it was Bruce getting his tactics spot on and that we can push on from here.

Despite not winning in 11 games, Villa are only 6 point of the play offs. I am hopeful with a run of a few wins, we will be right back up there!

Keep the faith!
